Jamoma 0.5.7 release candidate

Trond Lossius
Administrator
Hi,

I have prepared a release candidate (rc2) for Jamoma 0.5.7. This have been pretty extensively tested, partly thanks to the unit and integration tests that we have implemented over the past year (see the topmost paper at http://jamoma.org/papers.html for further details), and also thanks to a new server for building and testing that we have set up at BEK. Additional this have been used extensively in a number of artistic projects that I have been carrying out over the past 8 months, and probably also projects by other developers.

The installer is available here:

I have not had the time to write up an extensive change log, but the most important changes are:

  • Jamoma now requires OSX 10.7 or newer. Do to changes in OSX, Xcode and compilers we are unfortunately no longer able to support 10.6.
  • Dataspaces are now fully implemented. As a consequence the number of datastace-related attributes for jcom.parameter and jcom.message have been reduced to @dataspace and @dataspace/unit.

I won't be able to attend to bug reports over the next few days due to general Xmas craziness, but if you see any problems, it would be great to get reports back. Hopefully we'll be able to properly announce the new installer between Christmas and New Year.

Seasons greetings on behalf of all of the Jamoma developers!
Trond

Re: [Jamoma-users] Jamoma 0.5.7 release candidate

Théo de la Hogue
Hi Trond and Ricardo,
I'm not sure what is going wrong here but I think it is possible to avoid the problem for a Jamoma 0.5 build :

In the JamomaFoundation.yml file you can add the DISABLE_NODELIB flag to the defines field.
This flag should get ride off all the part of code relative to the NodeLib.

Sorry for this trouble.
I could look at it after the holidays only.

Best,
TO

Thanks, Ricardo.

There seems to be a conflict between Jamoma, your version of TapTools and the node lib here. Could you please provide details on what OS you are using? Also, if you have the time, would you be able to remove the tap.loader external from Cycling'74/extensions and see if that improves the situation? And finally, in future reports, could you also please include all of the crash log? There's information elsewhere in it that is useful to us as well.

@Tim and Théo: To me this seems like something that we might need to iron out together? If so, maybe there's time for it between Christmas and New Year?

Cheers,
Trond

tap
I suggest trying the TapTools 4 beta.  For most objects this eliminates the Jamoma dependencies.

Re: [Jamoma-users] Jamoma 0.5.7 release candidate

Thor
Hi Tim and list, hope you all are well.

I get: tap.loader: unable to load object bundle executable

and no working externals.

All the best

Thanks, Ricardo.

There seems to be a conflict between Jamoma, your version of TapTools and the node lib here. Could you please provide details on what OS you are using? Also, if you have the time, would you be able to remove the tap.loader external from Cycling'74/extensions and see if that improves the situation? And finally, in future reports, could you also please include all of the crash log? There's information elsewhere in it that is useful to us as well.

@Tim and Théo: To me this seems like something that we might need to iron out together? If so, maybe there's time for it between Christmas and New Year?

Cheers,
Trond

Hi,

I've done some tests today on the build server:

1) Booting into the InstallerTest partition I made a copy of the Max 6 folder and named it "Max 6 with TapTools".
2) I then downloaded Tap.tools 4 beta 1 that Tim announced recently.
3) In installed Tap.tools in "Max 6 with TapTools". according ton instructions.
4) I started this version of Max.

Result: Everything seems fine.

@Ricardo: When you get the time, could you please try doing the same and see if that works at your end? If it doesn't, the only plausible reasons for problems that i can think of is either differences between OSX 10.8 and 10.7, or possibly that the fact that Xcode is installed on the InstallerTest partition.

@Thorolf: Based on your mail in this thread: Am I right that you are still on OSX 106.8?

Your help is high appreciate in order to ensure that the release candidate for the Jamoma installer works well and might be announced publicly.

@Tim #1: The only problem I noticed is that the download button at http://74objects.com/taptools/ leads to a dead end.
@Tim #2: Please feel free to use the test server for future testing of Tap.tools as you like!

Thanks!
Trond

hi all,

just to make sure, have we finally dropped support for 10.6.8 in this installer?

best

Hi Thor,

> Yes I am, best get on the apple train then.. :-/

Thanks!

Go for Mountain Lion rather than Lion. If you have software that is still PCC, it won't work any longer. Also make sure you have a backup before upgrading. Carbon Copy Cloner is a nice way to make a clone that you in the worst case could use to revert to 10.6.8.

Apart from that, the only major hassles I have had with recent upgrades have been relating to software development and Xcode, as well as RubyOnRails web site development. As far as I know you're not doing any of them, so you should be fine. Generally I quite like 10.8, but I might have been damaged by spending to much time on iOS…

Cheers,
iTrond

Hi,

I discovered that the change from type array to type decimalArray and
integerArray did not make it into all necessary files in the Modular
subproject yet. I've fixed this during the last few days.
Might be worth to include these changes for the final 0.5.7

cheers,

Nils

Happy New Year, everybody!

Good news! Ricardo confirmed off list today that Jamoa 0.5.7.rc2 works well with the new Tap.tools beta. I'll make a new rc over the next week, and once that's tested I expect that we can launch it. By then hopefully we will also have the new web site up and running.

Cheers,
Trond
